United Cup of Champions Partners with ABAPPLATA for 2026

Puerto Plata – The Puerto Plata Basketball Association (ABAPPLATA), with the endorsement of the United Cup (USA), has reached an agreement with Denny Morrobel Mercado of ABAPPLATA to participate in a preseason schedule during the 2026 United Cup of Champions.

The tournament will begin on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, and games will be played on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with programming designed for the enjoyment of the entire sports community of the province. Several Puerto Plata clubs participated in the 2025 edition of the United Cup.

“President Joan Glorioso and Denny have been big supporters of the United Cup,” said Jermaine Barnes, CEO of Trinity United. “We love the city of Puerto Plata and, more importantly, ABAPPLATA basketball. Players like Kevlin Peña have gone on to compete globally through FIBA and have made an impact with the National Team. We want to continue growing the game of basketball in the Dominican Republic. We spent many years in Santiago, so expanding to Puerto Plata was a no-brainer. Working with Denny and ABAPPLATA has been a great experience so far, and it is our pleasure to partner with them and help prepare their teams for the Superior Basketball Tournament.”

Games played from Tuesday through Friday will tip off at 6:00 p.m., and American clubs are scheduled to arrive in Puerto Plata on Monday, January 5.

This edition will feature the franchises Eduardos del Batey, Correcaminos de la Parte Baja, Cotorras del Gustavo, Sosúa Sharks, and the reigning champions, Mellizos del Sur, who will compete in a regular phase defined by intensity, historic rivalries, and a high level of competition. Representing the United States will be the Georgia Panthers, Clermont Crocs, and U.S. Titans.

ABAPPLATA reaffirms its commitment to the development and strengthening of basketball in the province of Puerto Plata by guaranteeing an organized, competitive, and high-quality event, supported by institutions and sponsors who make this historic edition possible.
