UNIDA Super Liga 2024: Immortals open campaign with win over Orlando
Immortals - Boom 68-58
Immortals claimed a comfortable win over Orlando in the opening game at the 2024 UNIDA Super Liga. Brittany Carter (183-G-1993, college: Illinois) was the story for the Immortals. Carter finished with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals for the winners.
Immortals set the tone in the third period. They unloaded 21 points in the opening ten minutes to open a double-digit lead. Orlando managed to pull within two points in the second stanza but GIE restored a 49-48 advantage at the half. The Boom continued to fight as guard Stephanie Ball found the stroke from three!! Ball hit back-to-back three-pointers to put Orlando within five points. But Kristina King and Jensen Caretti (187-F/G-1997, college: Ohio St.) responded with quick four points and then Jessica Fairweather (180-G/F-1990, college: Queens, NY) drained a three-pointer to make it 68-55 for GIE as they never looked back en route to the win. Jensen Caretti put together a great second half while finishing with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. UNIDA Super Liga 2024: Santiago survive late scare, top Indias Fenix - Indias 67-64
Santiago registered the first win at the 2024 UNIDA Super Liga. They outlasted Indias del Sur in Group A action. Dariana Santos (180-F-1991, college: Wiley) 22 points to lead Fenix; but it was her late game three pointer that put the nail in the coffin.
Santiago started the game strong. They poured in 20 points in the first frame to take a 4-point lead. They maintained the lead throughout the second stanza. Fenix established a 40-37 halftime advantage. Sydni Tears (183-G, college: Talladega) carried the Indias within 20 points and 8 rebounds. But the Fenix entered the fourth quarter up by 8 points. They enjoyed an 64-62 lead with under a minute remaining. But Indias scored with just 30 seconds. Santos sank the big three and Fenix got away with a tough win at the end. Mary Coronado added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
