Turks and Caicos Island join 2021 United Cup, Forbes named head coach

Mervin Forbes , one of the rising young coaches in the United Cup Association, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Turks and Caicos Island Basketball Federation men's national select team.

La Vega board member Arnaldo Rodriguez said from their involvement with the qualifying rounds of the 2004 FIBA CBC Championship against the Turks and Caicos, US Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic, they felt they had found the right man for the job.

'I remember Mervin from the FIBA CBC as a player', said Rodriguez. He was a strong kid. Always professional. It is great to see him grow and push for the next generation of the island. It is an honor to bring Turks and Caicos Island to the 2021 United Cup.

Forbes, a former Turks & Caicos National Team (04') forward, has been serving as player development coach and team adviser of National Team scouting.

With Forbes has the head man of the island; he would go on to create the Turks & Caicos Rising Stars Basketball Association. For the last sever years he has placed many local players to the NCAA. 

"For me it's all about the kids and the future," Forbes said. My goal was to join the United Cup to put our island back on the map. I want our kids in school and working to develop our own professional league in FIBA. The honor is all ours to be apart of this amazing event. 

The United Cup will be hosted in La Vega, Dominican Republic July 22-25. The clubs are allowed unlimited import players to create a maximum competitive atmosphere.
